Company description:: March 6, 2004--Supervisor's for the security guard company came forward, announcing that they do not have the Federal Postal Inspection Service Sensitive Clearance required to work at one of the largest Postal Priority Mail centers in the country. Securitas Security Services, USA is contracted under the Federal Government to secure the Priority Mail Processing center at 1200 Harrison Avenue in Kearny, NJ. It is known that only about 15 percent of the security guards have the required clearance. There are an estimated 27 guards assigned to this facility. The Federal government is unaware that the security guards are not in compliance. The Federal Government leaves the responsibility to the contract security company. Securitas Security Services has a national contract to assign it's security guards to Postal centers across the country. Currently the Securitas employee who is the Head of security there is also not cleared to even step foot in the facility. If such clearance is not granted you are not allowed to enter the facility for employment purposes. This has been a very sensitive Postal center after mysterious powders were distributed in the mail, as stated in recent news. This particular Postal Center was also the topic of News across the country in 2001 after a gunman entered the facility and local police fatally shot him. The world's Largest Security Company Securitas Security Services could face dismissal from being contracted at any Federal Facility, and could face further action from the Federal government. Securitas Security Services operates offices out of almost every state across the country. The Securitas Office responsible for the guards at the Postal Facility in Kearny is located in Jersey City, NJ. In a time of terror where are the regulators, who ensure the safety of our country?
Update:
March 25, 2004--- Since the Release of this story, the Federal Government was notified. Security guards inside the Federal facility are outraged. The management of Securitas Security Services have stated to the guards that they have one week to appear at their main office to get fingerprints and drug test done, or that their employment would be terminated. The Security Guards are very confused, some not even realizing that they needed a special Federal Clearance. They wonder since they have been there for almost three years with out the clearance why are their jobs being threatened now. At this time it is unknown what action the Federal Government is going to take against Securitas, but one thing is for sure, Securitas Security Services is in a race to correct what was a federal breach of Security.
